ABSTRACT

80My understanding of child development changed dramatically when I was in graduate school and came across the concept of resilience. One evening, in one of my doctoral seminars, the professor asked, “Why is it that some individuals respond to life’s challenges differently from others? “What makes them better able to not only withstand crises, adversities, and trauma, but to come out of these experiences stronger, as compared to others going through identical problems who fall apart or deal with the emotional and physical after effects for years to come?”
