ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 looks at the issue of reliability and validity in the qualitative paradigm used in the research projects in this book. In most studies, you will also see the term ‘triangulation’ when researchers report their qualitative/quantitative research project. So what does this mean for a qualitative researcher using a naturalistic approach? If you want people to believe what they read or heard, you have to ensure that your data and conclusion are honest, dependable and reliable and open to inspection by others. That is what Chapter 6 is about: generalization, trustworthiness, transferability, confirmability and authenticity.
