ABSTRACT
Every magazine journalist needs to know the laws affecting their work whether for print, online or social media platforms. This chapter is an overview of the most important areas of media law such as libel, copyright, confidentiality and privacy. It also covers the basics of the criminal and civil justice systems and of the related reporting restrictions. There is a section on Scots law to explain where this differs from that of the rest of the UK.
