ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the different approaches of synthesis of nanocomposites, types of nanocomposites with their important applications. It highlights the growth of a commercial market for polymer nanocomposites with future prospects thereby finding an effort put at academic and industrial levels. Nanocomposites, especially polymer/metaloxide, have emerged as potential candidates with application spanning over wide areas of science and technology. Many of the fabricated nanocomposites have paved their way into industrial applications and are commercialized by being in the market and some of them are close to enter into the market. Nanocomposites can be synthesized by different approaches, which can be categorized as follows: template synthesis, in situ synthesis, melt mixing, solution intercalation, electrospinning, and click chemistry. Metal oxide nanoparticles play a key role in enhancing the mechanical, electrical, and optical properties of nanocomposites, which are dependent on the nanoparticle-polymer matrix interactions and also interaction between the nanoparticles.
