ABSTRACT
The introduction sets the context of the book, namely the rise of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) and anti-immigration, national identity, nationalist and populist politics in England. The backdrop to the book is the 2015 general election though the chapter draws links between the research and analysis presented and the subsequent referendum on EU membership, the rise of Jeremy Corbyn and the political turmoil following from the vote in favour of Brexit.
