ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book argues that a relational perspective of social interaction is cornerstone of planning practice and research and that institutional thought and pragmatic philosophy emphasize this relational approach in a complementary fashion. It aims to explicitly define productive avenues for conceptualizing "the dialectic between institutional and pragmatic approaches. Regardless, Salet has brought together an impressive array of scholars from around the world that have been developing the literature concerning both institutional and pragmatic approaches to planning in order to initiate a process of probing the potential of integrated approaches. The book discusses the research frameworks provided: Which institutional lenses offer the most promise in integrating pragmatic analysis? From where do institutional norms and pragmatic action emerge? Is there a dialogical relationship between institutions and action? What is the role of the researcher in institutions in action?
