ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 provides examples for students and other interested participants in urban design with real urban locations in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Specifically, examples of urban design composition are applied to Villiers Island on the Toronto waterfront; the Precincts of St Paul’s Cathedral in London; and selected sites in the Pacific Northwest, US, and British Columbia, Canada. These examples are meant to be guides and stimulations for students as they apply the elements and principles of design composition to various challenging sites and districts. The methods used in this chapter are intentionally semi-abstract with enough context to engage meaningful composition and not become ensnared in unnecessary detail.
