ABSTRACT
In this chapter we will discuss a brief history of how the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) came to be and how this law specifically mandates special education and related services for children with disabilities. We will also provide an overview of the latest version—IDEA 2004—which became law on July 1, 2005.
