ABSTRACT

A main theme of this book has been the relationship between senses of mystery and ordinary practices like walking and gardening. Openness to mystery is not disjoined from sensory and bodily engagement with the world. It is not found, primarily at least, in the motionless silence of contemplation or in ecstatic visions. It is through ordinary practices that a sense of mystery can be cultivated. And this is why we should expect a sense of mystery, once cultivated, to inform, shape and provide meaning to our everyday lives.
