ABSTRACT

N. Francis and A. Addis working in Africa, have published a review article on treatment of neglected clubfoot, which is a common problem in low income countries, with very little literature available on their treatment. Ignatio Ponseti and E. N. Smoley in the reprint of their classic article of 1963 published in The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery have themselves reported their results of treatment in 67 patients with 94 severe clubfoot deformities. A. Mahadev commented that residual deformities after surgeries in children or even after Ponseti management in resistant clubfeet occur commonly. S. Ryoppy and H. Sairanen claimed that the first published report of neonatal surgery in clubfoot is from their hospital in 1959 and quoted Somppi and Sulamaa. H. Andriesse published an assessment protocol, Clubfoot Assessment Protocol. Various instruments of assessing various variables of structure and function in clubfoot exist but none seem to be entirely reliable.
