ABSTRACT

[abstract: Integrated curriculum addresses the whole child and offers many benefits. These benefits include an authentic context in which to teach twenty-first century competencies, increased student engagement, enhanced socio-emotional learning, and academic achievement that compares favourably with traditional programs. This chapter describes various models of curriculum integration, and highlights how curriculum integration offers a natural fit for both holistic educators and twenty-first century learners. The chapter presents a Know-Do-Be framework for curriculum planning, focusing on what students know (head), can do (hands), and how they will be (heart) in the world. The conclusion urges educators to consider implementation of an integrated curriculum.]
