ABSTRACT

[abstract: Using vivid examples, this chapter offers glimpses into the richness of Waldorf school classrooms, curricula, and pedagogy and provides insights into the deeply holistic philosophy behind Waldorf education. Teachers’ various roles are discussed as well as their understanding of children as developing human beings made up of three major aspects—body, soul, and spirit. The importance of teaching aesthetically and enthusiastically, following and maintaining rhythms, balancing academic and artistic work, and providing children with the types of experiences that will enable them to gain personal freedom as adults are emphasized. A brief history of Waldorf education is also included.]
