ABSTRACT

Materials in Blender are one characteristic of how the surface of an object or model is displayed on the computer screen. Material itself encompasses a range of characteristics. To start with there is the visible spectrum of color, which in the real world is the refraction of light occurring when light is reflected off a surface. The controls for setting an object's Material are located in the Properties window, Material buttons. The default Cube object displays with a dull gray color. Color is the way one's eyes interpret the reflected light from an object's surface. When a new object is entered in a Scene there are no Material settings applied but one will see the object in the 3D window with the default gray color. It is important to remember that the Material color is only one element in the rendering process which determines an object's appearance.
