ABSTRACT

An adverse reaction is any response in drug use which is noxious and unintended. The study aimed to determine the adverse reaction of antituberculosis drugs to adherence in antituberculosis drug use. It was a cross-sectional study using a questionnaire to guide a short interview. All patients with tuberculosis or treatment observer who took tuberculosis needs at Perak Timur and Dupak primary healthcare centre in Surabaya, Indonesia, during November 2015 were included. The dependent variable was the use of antituberculosis drugs adherence. Right indicators included right dose, frequency, proper interval, timely and appropriate duration of therapy. Respondents (n = 42) were 19 (45.24%) of tuberculosis patients adherence and non-adherence group 23 (54.76%). There was significant difference (p = 0.035) between adherence and non-adherence groups based on the presence or absence of antituberculosis drugs adverse reactions. Adverse reactions of antituberculosis drugs can increase non-adherence of drug use.
