ABSTRACT

Historiography is the general direction of historical views about a subject. It is the process of seeing how narrative paths intersect. The restrictions in academia have led to a form of false creativity, in which young historians have to pose as experts in everything. Creative historical thinking should begin in the classroom. The key to good historical education at all levels is to allow students the freedom to be creative and imaginative, to seek out their own interests and discover history for themselves, but in cooperation with others. History education should be open to all varieties of history from the profoundly political to the antiquarian, from local and regional history to national and world history. Historical knowledge is a kind of chaotic knowledge that swirls around people and interacts with people all in different ways.
