ABSTRACT

A Lean enterprise organization is one with all functions focused on operations aligned in support of the business's value streams. This principle has to be applied flexibly to reflect business scale that exists in larger companies with divisions or business units, and corporate functional structures. Once business strategies are set, Lean enterprise organization structure, objectives, programs, and resources must be completely aligned to achieve strategic goals to minimize wasted resources. X-matrixes are established through a multi-level iterative process engaging all levels of leadership ensuring the plan is grounded in reality. Communication is leadership's main tool for transformational change. Confusion, misunderstanding, anger, disagreement, and suspicion will all be present in an organization involved in transformational change. Becoming a Lean enterprise entails embracing new management thinking and a new operational system. It is a commitment to a complete transformation of how the organization thinks, plans, and acts in running the business.
