ABSTRACT

Chapter five discusses the contemporary findings in light of recent sociological literature and presents an illustrative model of Christian youth work that has emerged from this research. The youth worker’s role is explored, young people’s relationship with the Christian church is considered, and narratives of rejection emerge. accesseThe chapter argues that youth workers manage tensions over the purposes of their work by separating it into different domains; social, spiritual, and institutional. It concludes that churches that place value on the social domain are more likely to engage young people in the other domains.
