ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces Industry 4.0 as an emerging catalyst for industrial change and explores potential implications for the design of products and services and, in turn, the realisation of a Circular Economy (CE). An overview of Industry 4.0 is provided, introducing key technologies and developments. This is followed by a discussion of the possible implications for design and the opportunities and challenges that these may present for the achievement of a CE. The chapter serves as an agenda for future research in this evolving area.
