ABSTRACT

Makerspaces are shared, open access community workshops filled with tools and digital fabrication machines for designing and making objects. They are free, experimental spaces where designers are increasingly experimenting with open-source, circular solutions. However, particularly in Europe, makerspaces do not prioritise sustainability practices and are not marked by expertise in the Circular Economy. Their potential to experiment with local, circular solutions directly with citizens is best supported by a network of diverse actors with specified, realistic objectives.
