ABSTRACT
Compression is more than a means of reducing dynamic range. It can bring different parts together in an exciting way. It can make parts interact and in fact make a mix seem more musically dynamic, while at the same time reducing its signal dynamics. These qualities are only accessible when you apply compression to multiple instruments at once, on a bus. Bus compression can also ruin perfectly good mixes, so proceed with caution.
