ABSTRACT

In mixing you have to be able to trust that what you’re hearing is right. But what you hear isn’t a true representation of what is happening in the air, but rather an interpretation your brain makes based on the circumstances surrounding you, your expectations of the sound, certain qualities of the sound—especially its intensity—and the aspects of the sound you focus on, to name just a few. Once you master how your hearing adapts to what it is presented with, you’ll be able to mix reliably.
