ABSTRACT

The enrolment process should educate students about the nature and benefits of coaching. Whilst students should never be forced into coaching, teachers should feel free to make recommendations. A central coordinator will be responsible for the administration of the programme. Interested students contact the coordinator so that (s)he can pair them with available coaches. A coaching programme may either include a fixed number of sessions or continue until the student no longer needs (or wants) coaching. The former approach may enhance commitment and prevent the student from becoming dependent on the coach. On the other hand, the latter approach allows coaching to be tailored to the student's needs. A coaching programme will involve certain paperwork. This includes the Coaching Contract, students' coaching forms, session notes and post-coaching questionnaires. Schools need to think carefully about how they will evaluate their coaching programmes.
