ABSTRACT

Health and safety is of paramount importance within schools, and brings specific considerations within PE. This chapter makes explicit who the responsibility for health and safety within PE lessons is with, and what we can do to ensure our lessons remain safe. Practical steps and examples are included for use within planning and teaching within a PE environment. Extraneous variables such as bad weather and damaged equipment have been included, as well as basic risk assessments for when working outside of the school’s environment – a regular occurrence for a PE teacher. Some practical activities require specific safety equipment, and some of these have been highlighted within this chapter.
