ABSTRACT
Pancreatitis is an inflammatory condition of the pancreas that clinically presents as abdominal pain associated with elevated pancreatic enzymes. It can occur at varying degrees of severity, ranging from mild, self-limiting disease to severe disease involving multiorgan dysfunction. Additionally, it may occur within a wide spectrum of illness that spans acute, acute recurrent and chronic pancreatitis (Box 14.1) [1-3].
