ABSTRACT

Focusing on Mexican drug cartels and the citizens and agencies that battle against them, the film is Cartel Land. The "writing" of a documentary happens in the edit and that's why often filmmakers see an Editor also getting a writing credit on the film. It expresses the amount of work that she/he has committed to the film's final story. This documentary feature performed very well around the world, was nominated for an Oscar and won many awards. The coverage of this scene, to cover the edits, is flames of fire. Our interviewee mentions a fire at the beginning of her interview, but other than that the coverage is symbolic. It was a stylistic decision by the Editor. Filmmakers hear one sound bite from "Papa Smurf," one of the Autodefensa AD members, and then a great sound edit moves us from hospital monitor beeps which turn into gunshots and we see….
