ABSTRACT

The future development of British society depends to a considerable degree upon the kind of education these children receive and it follows logically from such an assertion that the training of teachers and other professionals involved should prepare them to work in, and make a positive contribution towards, the development of such a society. Seeing that the effectiveness of the teacher's contribution towards education for a multicultural society will obviously rely heavily on his ability to cope with the ever-increasing changes in our society, he or she must be able to relate meaningfully to a wide range of people, to recognize and confront personal prejudices. Many teachers in training are critical of the curriculum they followed and of that they find in some schools, they are eager to teach more relevantly for contemporary society, and if made aware of the curriculum implications of teaching in a multi-cultural society such students are likely to respond.
