ABSTRACT
This entry presents the history and development of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). Although the main advantages of AES are its efficiency and performance for both hardware and software implementations, it may not be easily implemented in large-scale non-governmental sites, given the economic constraints of upgrading it, combined with the usefulness of the current Triple-DES (Data Encryption Standard).
