ABSTRACT

The possibility of a subversive version of the Lacanian enjoyment of the counter-action of joy, which is the equation of the regulation of pleasure with the pleasure of regulation, is assumed as a proposal for the adaptation of austerity as a counter-measure to the politically imposed austerity. Although intimately connected with the capital, architectural space can also constitute an alternative approach within extreme conditions. The research aims to trace upon the moments in architectural history that counter-culture developed a strong spatial dimension, investigate their reasoning as well as their manifestation and results, and draw the parallels between the era of the case studies and the current era. Architectural design can, in this way, inform and be informed in a reciprocal condition within which it can both survive itself and the people.
