ABSTRACT

The expression “Iron Curtain” indicates the borders dividing Europe in two distinct areas – from Stettino in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic.

Since the beginning of its dissolution, started on the border between Austria and Hungary, until the fall of Berlin Wall, several transformation of earlier militarized territories took place and led to the discovery of a new landscape, extended for kilometers in length and depth. The study of which therefore is a favourite and fruitful observatory regarding the different phenomenas of border areas transformation, as well as their context as the result of spatial effects of division or integration of European citizens. Studying these phenomenas can help us learn more about these kind of inbetween contexts and more about some possible strategies and actions for the conflicts resolution, so frequent, not only between the countries, but also within the city, and local comunities.
