ABSTRACT

The article presents the results of research on the contribution of Polish architectural thought and urban theory concerning the problems of socially engaged architecture. At the dawn of the twenty-first century, we unceasingly encounter the problem of housing shortage; however, changes of the broadly-understood conditions have occurred. Changes have affected the family model, the role of women in it, job opportunities, or the financing of the construction of one’s own house. A question arises whether the achievements of Polish architectural thought in the area of socially engaged construction could be of use also today.
