ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses transition models to new technologies and provides a brief history of technological milestones from the beginning of the nineteenth century. It also discusses the role of technology in sustainable development (SD) and focuses on challenges related to leveraging applications of technology for SD. The chapter shows how science, technology, and innovation serves as crucial driver of rising prosperity and improved national competitiveness. It explores the impact, attributes, and characteristics of appropriate technologies with regard to development problems. The chapter examines the performance analysis of technology using the S-curve model. It also explores the various forms of green technology practices and products in various sectors. The chapter describes the concept of technology transfer (TT) and its determinants and realizes TT through university innovation and entrepreneurship culture. The operation of TT process is commenced while all the uncertainties about the economic value of the business ideas remain.
