ABSTRACT

It is well accepted in the business world that every organization requires to constantly develop innovative business models, products, and services in order for them to remain competitive. Operations management plays a significant role in all types and sizes of industries whether they are manufacturing or service organizations. Operations management forms the central part of the successful functioning of any organization and often is referred to as the management of processes. Most modern organizations assign work and group people based on different intra-organizational structures, and the most common way of doing this is through a structure based on function or purpose. Operations managers play an important role in managing operational functions within the organization; however, over the years their roles have changed considerably from simply implementing processes and driving efficiency gains to the point where they are now considered the primary engine driving an organization, and playing a critical role in formulation of its strategy.
