ABSTRACT

The bionics of insects is focused on the solution of engineering problems and the development of engineering systems with characteristics similar to those of living organisms and their parts. In most cases, a vast superiority of the "technical" characteristics of insects over those of humans is observed at all levels. A technical installation is a component part of a technical system and a unit of industrial product. Insect bionics is most commonly used for the engineering of robots and other automatic devices that act based on a predetermined program. Insects frequently provide ideas for the development of tools. Insects frequently give ideas for creating new materials. A vast number of insects are able to climb on vertical walls or to walk upside down on ceilings. For a long time, these abilities were poorly understood. A group of scientists from Germany has studied the nature of adhesive surfaces on the legs of ladybird beetles.
