ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes why personally implementing interventions helps ameliorate many common concerns behavior intervention plan (BIP) fidelity. It discusses the many benefits to running own interventions prior to formalizing them into a written plan. A good BIP should present in an engaging manner, contain only vital information, and have immediate utility. If the BIP looks like an amalgamation of stock language and copy-and-paste of other reports, it will quickly become discarded. A solid BIP should include specific steps to ensure the intervention is run appropriately, but more importantly, the intent of each step should be clear. In order for a BIP to be simple and clear, it must be concrete and devoid of all abstraction. While there are few laws to govern what constitutes an appropriate BIP, there is an expanding body of case law.
