ABSTRACT

There are many easy, effective techniques to incorporate mindfulness into the flow of everyday living. And, while their efficiency and ease is a benefit, this is not really about saving time. What we are proposing here is cultivating a mindful approach to the act of living. One of the simplest ways to introduce this is to encourage clients to mindfully engage in something they would be doing anyway as part of their daily routine, and which they would normally do “on automatic pilot”. This chapter describes instructions to give a client around “mindful showers” and “mindful coffee-breaks”. Also included is an exercise around developing a mindful relationship with a phone or electronic device – things which many people often have unconsciously unhelpful relationships with.
