ABSTRACT

Joao Fernandes, having remained with the kinsfolk of that Moor whom Antao Goncalves brought to our country, went off in their company, taking with him some raiment, some biscuits, and some wheat which was left of his provisions. All these things were immediately taken from him, against his will, and he was given only a woollen cape such as the Moors wear. Returning to the adventures of Joao Fernandes: he travelled with these shepherds; in their company he traversed these sandy territories, and he was not always given enough milk to nourish him. One day it happened that he met two shepherds on horseback, who were going to the place where was that Ahude Meymon of whom we have spoken. And they inquired of Joao Fernandes if he wished to go along with them to find this Moor.
