ABSTRACT

Craig Newmark (United States) is the founder of craigslist and the Craig Newmark Philanthropies. He is a Web pioneer, a philanthropist, and a leading advocate on behalf of trustworthy journalism, veterans, military families, women in tech, and other civic and social justice causes. Craig Newmark is the man behind craigslist—a website that today is among the 40 most visited websites in the world, is found in 70 countries, and can best be compared with Exchange and Mart in the United Kingdom. He had a number of ideas about how one could connect people and make a difference. He pitched them to his friends and his network, listened to their feedback, and acted on what they told him. The first thing he did was to listen to what others suggested and then he refined the best of their ideas and input. That’s actually precisely the same method he follow today: listen, act, repeat.
