ABSTRACT

The “Peligro Yanqui” is a part of the much-discussed world problem of the “American Danger”; it is merely a local appearance of a world phenomenon; it is the specific name for this peril in Latin America. The “Peligro Yanqui” originated in Europe. The psychology of the “Peligro Yanqui” movement is clear. The modern American danger is a child of the world economic situation of the War and post-War period. The modern “Peligro Yanqui” was aroused by many specific psychological factors in America. The rapid tempo caused fright, and thus the “Peligro Yanqui” became one of the leading characters of the “Drama of Hispano-America.” The “Peligro Yanqui” in Spanish America is a psychological phenomenon, continually incited and nourished by the propaganda in Europe and North America on the one hand, and by the foreign policy of the United States toward Latin America on the other.
