ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author talks about 'Le Temoignage' Michel Pollak, analysing the experience of women in concentration camps in Nazi Germany, shows the strategic value of oral history interviews, among other possible sources of information. The written autobiographical accounts, such as novels or written testimonies, were by contrast all biased towards the experiences of those who were familiar with writing through a long schooling, usually leading on to a period at university. The author certainly emphasizes interviewing and the making of oral histories, given the almost absolute dominance of oral communication among Brazilian working classes. Adauto Machado's initiative, surprises the author with a written text inspired and occasioned by the research with his own social group, gave them the rare opportunity to follow closely the context and the making of this unusual form of written. Adauto's narrative certainly uses some skilful rhetorical tools.
