ABSTRACT

The most signal expression of this progress appears in "A Statement of Values and Ethics for Professionals in Organization and Human Systems Development." An effort given basic leadership by Bill Gellerman and Mark Frankel, especially encouraged in its later developmental stages by Don Cole and the Organization Development Institute. The Statement can build on a substantial history that had its limiting features even as it accomplished vital spade work. It seems to have about the correct focus as to its essential professional target members. The work on the Statement is strategically situated. The Statement also seems reasonably positioned, resting as it does on reasonable aspirations and on a realistic view of its multiple publics. The Statement seems nicely articulated with plans for the future that stress the participation by and involvement of various relevant publics, which is clearly appropriate for an Organization Development (OD) initiative but has not been characteristic of most past efforts at OD institution building.
