ABSTRACT

From the many scrolls that were discovered in the Judean Desert over the years, the one that will retain our attention in this chapter is a text comprising 120 lines, mostly original and partly reconstituted by Qimron, written on one papyrus and the rest on parchment. A colorful American orthodox Jew, answering to the name of Lawrence Schiffman, showed up at the Jerusalem Conference where he encountered Qimron and discussed with him his sensational findings. When Qimron got her clearance and encouragement, he headed to Talbiah, the most prestigious neighborhood in Jerusalem, which at the time housed Molho's office. Even after Kapera received Drori's threats, he wished nevertheless to pursue his intentions to publish Qimron's text anonymously, assuming that since the scrolls had become public domain, they could be cited without giving credit to anyone in particular.
