ABSTRACT
T HE most striking feature of the general elections for the tenth Israeli Knesset, in June 19 8 1 , was the dissociation of the workers from the Labour party (the Labour Alignment). Their allegiance to the right-wing Likud confirmed and reinforced what had seemed to be a transitory phase in Israeli politics, the Likud’s ascent to power in 1977 .
