ABSTRACT

The government tries, at least ostensibly, to help weak people in macro society. It has required there to be handicap parking spots, provided food assistance for the poor, and passed antidiscrimination legislation among many other things. The government has programs in place meant to help those who are relatively resource deprived—being physically weak or having a low social status—within social units. The federal government believes it has a responsibility to collaborate with and help states and communities develop the tools and resources needed to ensure the safety of their most vulnerable citizens through support, safety planning, legal advocacy. The Older Americans Act established the Administration on Aging under the Department of Health and Human Services, which is designed to administer and formulate programs for the elderly. The most commonly cited behaviours considered to be elder abuse have been highlighted by some leading federal agencies.
