ABSTRACT

The Barack Obama strategy’s earlier intention to build the Afghan army to a force of 400,000 is a “serious mistake,” he said, because analysts are faced with the reality that the Soviet occupation of the country in the 1980s had “pulverized the society so badly that Afghans only see themselves. President Obama, left with W.’s and Dick’s and Rummie’s unfunded—and increasingly unfunny—wars, has come up with the only strategy he could that would keep his presidency intact. Extraordinary in terms of military history and the entire idea of “winning wars,” he even gave a date for beginning the withdrawal: July of 2011. Dr. Brzezinski further warned against “Americanizing” the war and advised we watch the results of an international strategy conference soon to be held with the Europeans to plan for the remainder of the war. Now the White House is “in” the war and “out” of the war in almost the same sentence.
