ABSTRACT

This chapter makes some general observations on the problem of value studies and their application to aspects of change in Mexico. In Mexico honor is affected by any word or act which casts a reflection or may be interpreted as casting a reflection upon one's family, one's manliness, or one's courage. The chapter's emphasis has been upon the family and its values in relation to closely associated aspects of the total sociocultural system. It suggests that in very extensive and fundamental way the values of urban-industrial group related to the family are approaching those of other western industrialized societies just as the national society is moving toward a more.
