ABSTRACT

This chapter examines an alleged federal report prepared by a group of social science notables, and explains why United States policy must be pegged to a permanent war system. The analysis attempts to show how the distinction between fact and fiction in federal reports has tended to increase over time, due to the legitimation provided by social scientists and by the inflexible foreign policy positions. It is obviously difficult to resist the temptation of arguing with specific points in the Report. The essence of Report from Iron Mountain is that for the first time have an appropriately pathological American response to Maoist slogans, to the concept that social change is made by looking down the barrel of a gun. If this social science fantasy is to be believed, what fascism has in store for us is in fact a world of peace. This is the first time—that we know of, at least—that fascism has been correlated with the peace system.
