ABSTRACT

Experienced teachers are fully aware of the shortcomings of many conventional text-books and will welcome the opportunity, offered by programmed instruction, to prepare their own material for classroom use. Commercially produced programmes may well prove useful in certain situations, but no one can doubt the effectiveness of programmes specifically designed for the students who are going to use them. The only person who is in a position to produce such programmes in the full knowledge of the capabilities and interests of the student and with an understanding of his immediate environment, is the classroom teacher.
