ABSTRACT

Publishing as a Vocation is both a companion volume to Communicating Ideas and at the same time, an entirely distinct collection that can be read in its own right. The linkage of politics and technology is the driving momentum of our age, and it is assuredly the center of gravity for these studies. From twitters to bloggers, the communication of written as well as verbal ideas can be transmitted in a matter of minutes now, not years. Indeed communication, unbound by wires and electricity has given way to the wide expression of masses of humanity, an outcome not always pleasant to the eyes and ears of those who enjoy managing social life. If politics is the art of the possible, then technology is the higher art of transforming scientific principles into practices. Theories of politics and practices of publishing form a mosaic of my career.
