Blake saw Jesus as the imagination. By this, he meant that the story of Jesus enables us to see into the life of the spirit: the Jesus story opens a window to the soul. Blake saw Jesus as the imagination. By this, he meant that the story of Jesus enables us to see into the life of the spirit: the Jesus story opens a window to the soul. Christians have been conditioned to believe that myth is false, and to get from this position to one in which myth can be respected is difficult. Myths are movements of soul that are too large to be contained by the conscious mind. A key feature of myths and dreams is that the archetypal contents of the psyche are personified. Ironically, although Jesus came to bring the "good news" that the grace of God was available, and we are all sons and daughters of God, tradition turned the messenger into the message.
