ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines that the development of rpm. and of policy measures for its control in Ireland have been moulded by the particular features of the Irish economy. Resale price maintenance and its control are both fairly recent developments in Ireland. The preceding summary of the legislation relating to rpm and other restrictive practices in Ireland makes it clear that no very strong official disapproval of such practices exists. Detailed discussion of the Commission's work on rpm falls into three parts. First, the making of fair trading rules is discussed; secondly, the reports of enquiries and resulting orders are considered; and finally, the general work of the Commission and their reviews of the operation of rules and orders are examined. As well as the reviews of trades in which control has already been imposed, the Fair Trade Commission continue to investigate and review trades so far uncontrolled.
